Herb and Norma Sutter

There are two ways to be saved from a shipwreck. One is to be rescued after the ship goes down. The other is to be prevented from going on the ship in the first place. Rescues can be very dramatic, but prevention is easier on the soul.

God saw to it that I was born into a family that, from the beginning, taught me about Christ and his ways. I cannot remember a time when I did not know His presence, his love, and his protection. God has been very patient and gentle with me. I was pretty casual about our relationship through my teen and college years, but he never abandoned me, never stopped calling me to a deeper relationship, and never stopped blessing me.

As I got married, finished school, went to work, and started a family, I started to become less casual and sought to deepen my relationship with him and more closely follow his desires for my life.

Over the years I have come to appreciate that he has a plan for my life that is far better than anything I could design myself. The more I seek him out and follow the plan, the more he blesses me and gives me joy and peace.

As I look back on my life I can see that God, in his love, has protected me from evil and blessed me in every area of my life: family, home, finances, work, friends, and more. But the most precious thing of all is that he has allowed me to have a personal relationship with him that the Bible assures me will last past death into eternity.
